  1. I think traditional stories should not change over time. This is because if we change the story that ancestors have passed down to us, it won't be traditional anymore. When you change a story, it loses all purpose of its meaning because you're changing it what the current beliefs are, and changing it according to the advance in technology we have currently. Another reason it should not change is because if the traditional story is true, someone might want to explore and see if what our ancestors wrote were meaningful and true.We should leave traditional stories the same because they were the beliefs of our ancestors.

    1. Very good points that you made. A few points your sentances were a little confusing. But also a very good use of knowledge.

  2. Traditional stories such as legends and myths should be kept as close to the original story as possible. What would be the point in having a legend or myth over a hundred years old if it is not true? Some people may disagree with this because they think that further generations should know that it does not matter if you are a boy or a girl. That is true, but the generations to learn the legend or myth should learn what their ancestors did. This can help them expand from their knowledge and use what they know about previous generations to teach their children and grandchildren. In older times it was the males who were the cheifs not womenn, and the women did all the housework and everything like cooking. Now in modern society, mena nd women may both lead tribes and groups, etc. it can show that before people had been stereotypical and sexist toa certain point. It can affect many people in mant different ways and everyone should have equal rights to do the things they love. Now not as many people are sexist and they agree that both men's and women's rights are at equal standings. People should not change a myth or legend just because society does. Legends and myths are meant to be told about the past- not present.

  3. Traditional Stories:
I think that traditional stories should stay the same, but there is a time for change. Traditions become traditions because they stay the same year after year, generation after generation. After practicing a certain way of doing things for a number of years, it becomes a tradition. At my former school, we performed 'Fiddler on the Roof Junior'. Fiddler is all about traditions and how change is necassary as times change. at one point Tevye, the main character, needs to arrange a marriage for his daughter, but she finds her own match. After seeing this happen, the next oldest daughter wants to do the same, but Tevye says if he bends too far he will break. As the culture was changing Tevye could do nothing to keep his traditions and still have the love of his family. In the end they changed for the better. I feel that traditions bring people together, but sometimes change is necessary, and in the end they can sometimes get better.

  4. I think that traditional stories should change over time, espescially in more current times because while all stories/ legends carry some meaning or lesson, in more recent times it may be more difficult for people to understand the point of the story, especially for younger people that would benefit from these lessons more. Such as from the whale rider when Paika rides off on a whale and then seemingly dies, because I myself still don't quite see or understand the meaning of that (assuming there was one).

    1. In my opinion, myths and legends should stay the same. The times might change, but kids can learn about the past. Since times are changing so quickly, the stories would have to be updated constantly.
I like the way you formatted the paragraph and how you used a real life experience. To improve, I think that you should give more examples or go into more depth about your reasoning.

  5. I do not think that traditional stories should be changed. Traditional stories are created for a purpose, and each name, detail, and moral have an important part to play in the story. If one of these key elements is changed, the whole story could be altered. Keeping the stories as they are allows the story and its time to be preserved. Through stories and legends, children can learn about the years before theirs, and adults can reminisce about the past. If a story is important enough to be told over and over again, why should it be told differently? In twenty years, J.K. Rowling appreciate people changing the famous name of Harry Potter to Larry Rotter? Although it is only a name being changed, it is a name that affected millions of kids, and one that should live on to affect millions more. Harry Potter led kids to use their creativity, think about new worlds, and maybe, inspired them to write. Harry Potter could've helped kids learn to love books and enjoy words. Many traditional stories that are told today have been changed in one way or another, and whether the forgotten detail is something as important as the setting or as minute as their hair colour, both the storyteller and listener regret not having the original story. A story is like a puzzle, without every piece staying exactly as it was made, the puzzle cannot be completed. It is the same thing for a story. If a pieces of the story are changed or left out, the story isn't complete. Each time a story is passed down, a piece of that person's heritage goes with it. Stories might be able to become better, but the creator of the story told the story that way for a certain reason. He/she had a reason for each detail and I don't think that the details should be changed. If a story is suddenly changed or updated, its message wouldn't have the same effect that it would have had 50 years ago. The story wouldn't matter, and that piece of our heritage would be lost. In conclusion, no, traditional stories should not be changed over time. Who are we to say we could improve a story that many have enjoyed for years before we were even born? They were written they way they were for a reason, and that is how they should stay.

  6. What are the qualities needed to be a successful school leader? I believe an ideal school leader should have vision. A leader needs to have vision of a clear sense of a moral purpose because the leader has to be able to sense who has good qualities. Leaders have to show great determination, patience, and accept challenges to visualize things through to make the school a better place. A Leader also needs to have passion about teaching, learning, showing great commitment to children and have an interest in their work. They need to have Emotional Intelligence who can understand the importance of relationships. They need to involve the school community so everybody can participate to make the school a better place. Successful school leaders are optimistic and resilient, be postive and enegetic. They need to have great persuasion skills to attract people's attention. Leaders need to have confidence in communication and motivation to get the school community to do things. Lastly I say they need to have curiosity because leaders need to be curious of what they can do to make the school a better place. Some problems leaders have to address are Bullying, undiscplined students, and participation in the school community/activities because some students do not like to participate because they are shy and keep the school a safe and clean place.

  7. I have many great leaders in my community who all have traits that make them the people they are today. A good leader should be loyal to his words. He should fulfill the promises he makes. He should have respect for his people so his people respect him back. Some good examples would be Obama, he has taken charge of America, sure some people reject or detest his decisions but that comes in every community, I feel he makes the majority of his decisions with his country in mind like when he stopped wasting all that money on NASA because they were not getting anywhere. He is a very loyal and Respectable man. Another good example is stephen harper, he is very loyal and works with Canada in mind. A good leader has a cause or motive( a reason to be the leader), without these he cant actually lead. He is very respectable and intelligent in politics. Overall a good leader should have a motive in mind, he should be loyal and respectful. I believe we have many potential leaders in our community today

Taditional stories, whether they be a legend or a myth, have to change, to a certain extent, overtime. The reason they have to change over time is because with time, things change. For example if there was a story about a king who did something very insane, but in the story women did not have rights, we would have to change that because in the times now women are given all rights men have. Another point, although very obvious would be if the french had a myth they believed in for ages but felt the rest of the world should know. Well this would not work as not everyone is a fluent speaker of the french language, so the myth would have to change to other languages. Traditional Stories will always need to be continuosly updated

    1. I liked your reasoning as to why the traditional stories have to change. One thing I like is how you explained that if something changed in the current time, it should change in the traditional stories. Although I liked the explanation, I do not agree with this because women didn't have rights back then. Changing that would not benefit the story, since you're changing what the situation was for our ancestors.

  9. Myths and legends do need to change over time. Because myths and legends are written a long time ago, there are going to be parts of they myth or legend that wouldn't make sense at this time. As society changes, the myths and legends need to change with them because if they don't, it will seem out of place. For example, if the myth was that if you showed any signs of witchcraft, you would be beheaded, it wouldn't make a lot of sense since that hasn't been a popular punishment in a long time. The myth or legend also wouldn't make sense if it was set in a place that no longer existed. Therefore, myths and legends do need to change over time because as the world changes they need to change for them to make sense and for humans to be able to connect with them.

  10. No, I do not think traditional stories should change overtime.A traditional story is any story that has been passed down from generation to generation, concerning some hero or event and explaining religion and rites. If these stories change overtime, they will lose the history and significance behind them. Myths such as those in the Greek mythology help us understand about our past civilizations, and thoughts/way of people back then , for example the way they socially interacted and the problems and solutions they faced.Change to fit this era would mean that soon people will forget the traditional stories and lose our connections with the past.In addition, many legends and myths have powerful morals behind them that even in the 21st era should not be forgotten. Changing these myths would mean losing the messages that the past wanted us to learn from. As they say learn from the past.In conclusion do not change the stories from the past.

    1. It was a really good piece of writing!!! I really enjoyed how you included Greeek mythology into it, and how you used your knowledge well. One error that I found was 'rites' which should be changed to 'rights'. Keep up the good work and remember to always include many ideas to support your ideas and reasons why. Good job! :)

  11. Two qualities I would look for in a school leader are responsibility, and creativity. Handling the educational well-being of over 1100 students is a big job, and a leader would have to be able to handle the pressure from not just the school board, but also the parents. They would need to deal with monetary, managerial, or educational issues gracefully, while still representing our school in a good light. They would also need to be creative. As a teenager, I can say with first-hand experience that many of us are not very motivated. Trying to balance school and a social life, all while getting a decent night’s sleep doesn’t leave us much room for volunteering. A good leader should be able to come up with ideas and activities to not only get is more involved in our work, but also our school and community. Encouraging extracurricular activities, finding places in and around our city for volunteer opportunities, and creating incentives for participation within the school are just a few things they could use to get us more involved. Depending on their position, a school leader would have different problems to deal with. For example, a student body president would deal with day-to-day student issues; better food in the cafeteria, more time in between classes, and resolving issues among the student body. They would represent the student body as a whole, giving a voice to the usually unheard ideas they may have, and representing them in front of the school administration. However, someone higher up, for example a principal, would have different problems to address. They would have bigger responsibilities like budgeting the school, meeting with the school board, and evaluating teachers. If a problem is big enough, they must give final word on the issue, meaning a principal would also have to always be available to meet with teachers of a parent. This type of leader is the face of the school as a whole, not just the students inside it. In conclusion, not only should a leader be responsible and creative, but depending on the type of leader they are, be able to deal with the issues that come with accepting a role as a leader.

  12. I think that traditional stories should change over time because sometimes change is good. In the Whale Rider, Paikea's grandfather didn't want things to change. Like a girl being the leader of their town. But after trying to keep things the same, bad things started to occur. For instance, Koro lost the sacred whale bone at sea. I do understand that he was trying to keep things the same, but he could've tried to see that maybe Paikea being the new chief could be good for all of their lives. Paikea showed courage, bravery and leadership. She proved that she could be the new leader. A change that could bring equality and for other people to prove themselves is a good kind of change.

  13. I think that many qualities make up a great leader. Characteristics like responsibility, perseverance, integrity, and respect are ideal for the perfect leader. In the movie, "Whale Rider", the leader(i forget who he was) was always serious and prepped everybody to deal with the outside world and also their culture. A leader has many responsibilities which he has to take care of. One of which is dealing with all of the students. The movie "Whale rider" is a perfect example of that. The leader had to listen to the students perform, teach, and also deal with pai, who was very stubborn. For example, when the leader was trying to teach, he heard pai and another guy fighting with sticks, so he had to stop the lesson, and deal with the girl trying to do a man's job. He didn't deal with it lightly, he would always be serious about it and get furious at her when she didn't listen. As a leader, you would need to have a lot of perseverance. If times get tough for him, or the students won't listen, perseverance is key to fulfilling his duties. The leader represents the team and he leads the team in everything they do. He must also be confident in what he has to do so that he can teach others. For his students, he should be a role model of what a true leader should be like. His students must trust him and accept him for his leadership skills. The leader has to know how to deal with situations correctly and justly, or else he will lose his credibility and his trustworthiness. He has to be honest and fair to everybody and not treat people differently. Respect is another optimal characteristic for every leader. If a leader does not have respect, he can not be in a position to lead other people. To be a leader you must be nearly perfect in everything you do.

You dont have to repeat "Whale Rider" twice, just say "this movie is a perfect example of that" or something
      Match your verb tenses

Nice Things: Good use of examples from the movie
Very good points made form the beginning, which were carried throughout

  14. The qualities I would look for in an effective leader for the school community are courage, confidence, approachable, open-minded, and problem-solving skills. An leader must have to courage to see difficult situations through to the end and accept responsibility for the outcomes of decisions. They must also have the courage to stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves because they have opinions and rights too. They must have confidence. If they don’t believe in themselves, how can others believe in them? The answer is they can’t. To be a successful leader you must have confidence in yourself and your abilities. There is no one better to bring ideas and suggestions for improvements than your team or the other students but if you aren’t approachable, they won’t bring forward what could be the best ideas ever for fear of rejection. An open-minded leader is flexible, adaptable to change, and takes into consideration all ideas. Theses ideas can help the leader solve problems they couldn’t by themselves because “alone we can do so little; together we can do so much”(Helen King). Problem-solving skills are being able to anticipate, identify, solve, prevent, and learn from problems that occur in the school, such as lack of funding. The leader of our school would need to address the lack of school spirit (i.e. Students do not go to school events such as sports very often), getting healthier and better tasting cafeteria food, and working to make the school an enjoyable learning environment for all. These qualities are needed in a leader because a leader has a lot of responsibilities and people who look up to them.

  15. School community leadership is unique in its approach and goals. School community leadership is not about managing or even coordinating. And it is certainly not about dictating or imposing your ideas into others. As a school community leader you should be able to "work as a team", build relationships, and work together. Meaning not only the leader does all the work but instead everybody helps out (pitches in) and knows each other so that work can get done more efficiently and effectively. Also being patient with one another and supporting them is a quality in a school community leader. They should be able to walk beside not lead from above. Meaning they should listen to the problems the students have, hear other peoples ideas and also put those to use so that they can build a stronger school. There are no special privileges that put school community leaders above others who are in the school. Every student has responsibilities and rights. School community leaders should have confidence, belief in their ability to meet most challenges that come their way. Adaptability is important. leaders should be willing to be flexible and respond quickly and effectively to changing circumstances. They also need a sense of humor so that they can laugh to their selves and relieve tense or stressful situations with humor. That`s because nobody likes tense and serious people. They like those people that go with the flow and live life.
Some problems that school community leaders should talk about is equality. Everyone should be treated equally, no one superior or inferior by gender, race, age or religion. They should treat people the way they want to be treated. Talking about being safe not being bullied or threatened. Everybody deserves a positive learning environment. Other problems they should talk about is "NO DRUGS"! Drugs are harmful, they cause bad decision making, committing crimes, and gets people addicted to bad habits.
This is what I except a good school community leader to be like and act like , to make our school a better place for everybody to be in.

  16. Traditions and myths are a huge part of nearly every culture in the world. They are created the way they are for a reason, so I belive that while values may change over time, the stories themselves should not. People create these stories to express their beliefs and religions, and to build heroes that will remind people of their values. These stories offer a unique insight into our past, and the pasts of other cultures. If we change these stories to fit OUR values, then the work of the creators of these myths, and all the history put into them would be wasted. How can we learn from the past if we destroy all there is to learn? We can change our values, but that does not by any means force us to try changing the past.
