Blood and Chocolate

  1. The main character, Vivian, is changing as the story develops. The audience sees this when Vivian tries to go to highschool, and tries to make humans like her. Vivian realizes that when she goes up to guys, they get shy and are not able to talk to her, so she assumes that they possibly think she's too pretty. When Vivian approaches girls, they stop talking about what they were. Vivian believes they are jealous of her beauty. We see the change start when she starts talking about the Five, and how she doesn't go around with them anymore as they have changed and they do things that she doesn't approve of. We also see a change when she decides to go to a concert with Aiden, because she is starting to like him as the story develops. Before, Vivian didn't care and wanted to move around all the time but now she wants to stay instead of moving again. We also see that many of the wolves in the pack want to settle the leader ¨The Old Way¨, which she, and many others, do not approve of. We see changes as well when Vivian tries to impress Aiden by being in only a tank top when she goes outside. Afterwards, we see Vivian's true feelings and that she questions what she is doing towards Aiden, and what she was doing overall. These are one of many reasons why I believe Vivian, the main character, is changing drastically throughout the story.

    1. The purpose that the change serves is it shows Vivian's character traits and personality, and how she feels about being what she is - a wolf. The reader sees that Vivian does not approve of some of the things that the pack does, and that she is trying to become more and more normal and trying to fit in with modern-day society.

    3. Hmm... How does this quotation support any of your points? You need to provide context and explanation.

    4. I do agree with you that Vivian is changing throughout the first half of the novel. You had a great introduction as well as a concluding sentence. I also agree with the fact that you say Vivian believes that the guys become shy due to her beauty, and that the girls think they are not as beautiful as her. I do agree with Mrs. Hunter that you could have picked a stronger quotation from the novel, but over you did an excellent job!

  2. If I were to choose a character from the book to be my friend, I think that I would choose Willem. Willem has a twin brother named Finn but I would still choose Willem over any of the other characters. Ever since Vivian and the others had been young, Willem was always the "sweeter and more predictable [one], but his affectionate gestures had lost... their innocence in the last year or so" (Klause 18). He seems like he could be the type of friend one might be able to talk to easily and trust with your life, yet he also seems like he can be very serious at the same time. Many people want and need a best friend who they can talk to about anything and everything. Willem reminds me of a few people who I was close to before I came to this school actually. I talk to one of them still at baseball but not as much as I would like to. They are funny guys and they are always doing something that others wouldn't choose to do on a regular basis. They were and still are crazy kids, but if I needed to talk to them about something, I knew I could. It is a great friendship and I don't want it to change either. Willem is able to joke around with the others he hangs out with too. He acts like he would be a good guy with a little bad in him considering who he hangs out with. Although Willem is able to stand his ground and stick up for what he believes in, he also knows when e needs to listen to his elders around him and not argue. He isn't too pushy either so he’d have a calm side to him. These are a few of the reasons why I would want to have Willem as a friend if I had to choose.

  3. Vivian is in love with a meat boy Aiden who she is not supposed to be in love with since she is a werewolf. Werewolfs are not supposed to stay with humans because if they find out who they are then they will kill them and here Vivian has feelings for one of them. As soon as Vivian saw Aiden she said that his face was delicious but “ He’s not a werewolf, she thought in dismay. How can I react this way when he is not one of us” (kla 24). Not only would the human kill her if he found out about her but her family would not allow it as well. Since she was so in love and love makes people do weird thing she decided to still hang around with Aidan but lied to him by not telling him who she really was. I remember when I was in grade five and I had a friend that was in love with a grade seven year old boy. Everybody objected their love and thought they were weird because they had a huge difference in their ages, but like I said before love makes people do weird things. I also knew another girl who was in love with the ugliest guy I had ever seen but she loved him dearly and stayed with him even though everybody objected their relationship. So Viven had the same problems as these people but she overcame them by lying to the person she loved.
